Welcome to website of Murayama Lab.

We conduct research activities from the view of environmental policy and planning for sustainable society. Paying attention to on-site situation, we give our priority to the fieldwork and stress the integration between scientific and democratic viewpoint.

Research topics include risk assessment and management, environmental communication, environmental impact assessment, policy dialogue, social decision making.

Our lab. collaborates with Nishikizawa Lab.

According to Education Reform starting from April 2016, our laboratory belongs to the following division.

  • Department of Trans-Disciplinary Science and Engineering, School of Environment and Society

Annual meeting of IAIA was held online, and some members made presentations. Also, Murayama provided his treasurer report at General Annual Meeting. It includes in 2020 annual report.

November 22, 2020

The 33rd annual meeting of the Society for Risk Analysis, Japan was held online from November 21 to 22, and Atsushi Imanaka, a PhD student, received an excellent presentation award.

May 19, 2019

Some members attended the annual meeting of IAIA in Brisbane, Australia, and Mr. Ali Rahmat Kurniawan, PhD student from Indonesia, made a presentation on EIA system in Indonesia. At the meeting, JICA received IAIA Institutional Award for outstanding activities on environmental and social considerations for their projects. Murayama served as a chair of advisory committee on JICA environmental and social considerations for more than 10 years.

March 15, 2019

As a director of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), which is the leading organization on impact assessment for various fields, Murayama was elected with other two members, Ben Cave as President-elect and Eddie Smith as secretary. Murayama will work as treasurer for 3 years.

Vania Theresia, a undergrad student of Bandung Institute of Technology, stayed as a visiting student by Young Scientist Exchange Program(YSEP)and made her final presentation. The topic is “Policy analysis and evaluation of electronic waste management in Indonesia”.

Held on February 2nd and 3rd in Ookayama campus, around 170 pearsons attended the meeting. the program is here (in Japanese).

December 17, 2018

Japan Center for Environmental Information Science (CEIS) held a symposium on measures for SDGs related to the 5th Environmental Basic Plan and contribution of environmental reasearches in the 32th annual meeting. At the symposium, Murayama made a presentation on contribution of EIA for SDGs and discussed with other panelists.

As an advisory member of pilot projects on zoning system for wind farm construction organized by Japan Ministry of the Environment, we visited Aomori prefecture to look around the potential areas and discuss with stakeholeders.

Ms. Yukiko Iida, a PhD student, attended The 3rd Asian Network of Occupational Hygiene Conference held at National Yang-Ming University in Taipei, she got Best poster popularity award.

Prof. Murayama visited Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to discuss with faculties of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology as well as conduct site visit around a MSW dumping facility which is related to a research of a PhD student, Linh Tran.

International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) held a special symposium, The competing challenges of sustainability and economic development: Using impact assessment to achieve the SDGs in Asia,  in Kuching City of Sarawak state, Malaysia, and we made presentations with 4 PhD students.
