Intl. Assoc. for Impact Assessment, 36th Annual Meeting in Nagoya

Aug  29:  I attended as a vice chair to the second meeting on "Policy Dialogue on chemical substances management for the environment" organized by the Japan Ministry of the Environment.

Aug 27: I made a presentation on asbestos risk and the measures at the forth meeting of the expert committee on measures against asbestos contamination for a sub-committee on atmospheric environment of the Central Environment Council, the Ministry of the Environment.

July 30: Research meeting on communication and governance related to siting and operation of geothermal power plants was held with Dr. Suwa, Research fellow of United Nations University.  Dr. Shibata and a member of his lab. also attended.

July 19-22: As one of activities for research project titled "Action Research on effective decontamination reflecting actual situation of areas polluted by radioactive substances(FAIRDO)," I and some students attended a workshop at Fukushima University, on-site visiting to Oguni village of Date City, Minami-sohma City and Namie Town, as well as International symposium at Sakuranoseibo Junior College.  This project is funded by Ministry of the Environment, and foregin experts from Germany, France, Spain and Belarus participated as well.  Our lab. will contribute on survey and implementation on risk communication among various stakeholders.

July 10, 2012: I was interviewed about comments on the activities of Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) of World Bank.  According to the interviewer, a consultant in charge of this survey, interviewees are over 100 in 14 countries.  I made comments on activities of advisory committee on environmental and social consideration of JICA as well as activities of World Bank.

June 21-23, 2012: Annual lodging seminar was held in Numazu City of Sizuoka Pref. with Nishikizawa Lab..  The topic was collaboration between NPOs and community organizations for implementing municipal environmental basic plan  in 2011.  For this purpose, we conducted interview surveys with related stakeholders as well as field trips.

June 12, 2012: Publication lists were updated.

June 6, 2012: English edition of some pages in the website has been released, thanks to substantial help of Dr. Iizuka and Mr. Ishikawa, members of our laboratories.

May 29 to June 1, 2012: Some members attended annual meeting of International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) held in Porto, Portugal.

In addition to Dr. Sachihiko Harashina (Professor Emeritus and past president), Dr. Shigeo Nishikizawa (Associate Professor), Keita Azechi (D1) and Joju Uechi (M1) atteded.  Some alumni of Harashina Lab., Mr. Yasuhiro Kawazoe (JICA) and Dr. Kanji Usui (Consultant) also joined.

We made presentations on various topics including development assistance and environmental and social consideration, decision-making and consensus-making on siting and operation of renewable energy facilities, EIA and social impact related to the accident of Fukushima Daiiichi nuclear power plant.

May 22, 2012: Our lab's website has been established.

May 18,19, 2012: Explanatory meetings on entrance exam were held. Next meeting will be held on June 2nd.

May 15, 2012: Some members attended a research meeting on communication and governance related to siting and operation of geothermal power plants.

Apr 1, 2012: Prof. Murayama has arrived at the current post from Division of Socio-Cultural Studies, School of Creative Science and Engineering, Waseda University.
